What you need to know about pitching on the Innovation Pathway
- As it pertains to the Innovation Pathway, first and foremost, you should review the criteria for the stage that you are applying to in order to ensure you’re addressing those criteria in your pitch.
- You should be creating a pitch deck that addresses those criteria for each stage of the Innovation Pathway (e.g. Run stage criteria for Run, Fly stage criteria for Fly, etc). You can’t use the same deck for each stage.
- An InnoPath application or advancement pitch is different from an investor pitch or a pitch for a competition like the New Venture Competition! There is no one perfect pitch that you can use for all purposes: know your audience and your goals with the pitch.
To help you address the criteria for each stage, we’ve created guides for each stage:

Some Basic Rules of Thumb
- Communicate what you do in the first 60 seconds
- Show why it’s awesome
- Provide evidence for how you know what you know
- Show that you know how to manage risks
- Don’t do a live demo for a digital product! Use a pre-recorded video demo with no voice or sound. Do bring in a sample/prototype of a physical product (if suitable for the space).
